CBD oil helped to save my life

CBD was an important part of how i recovered from cancer. Here I talk about the benefits of the amazing CBD oil for health and cancer treatment.

I used CBD oil in my recovery journey from brain cancer every day and the doctors really didn’t like it and asked me not to show them that I had it in the hospital as it could create trouble.

I am a passionate advocate of a plant-based diet as part of living a healthy, conscious and natural lifestyle. Nature has given us all the nutrients and herbs we need for optimum health.  CBD oil is a natural, plant-based medicine that has been used therapeutically by humans for thousands of years and has become known for its incredible medicinal benefits.

New research shows that this is a miraculous herb for human health.  Legislation around the world is constantly shifting and changing. The information available about it can be confusing and contradictory, as I found for myself when I started to look into it.

My interest and curiosity in CBD oil was sparked when I witnessed a teenager in our family recover from anxiety and depression after using CBD oil daily and making some changes to their nutrition. I followed the research from organisations such as The Beckley Foundation, a UK based think tank and NGO who pioneers psychedelic and natural medicines research and that drives evidence-based drug policy reform. The work is led by the extraordinary pioneer in drug research, Amanda Fielding. I know Amanda and have been fortunate to spend time with her and stay at her beautiful country house in England. During our time together, I found out more about the incredible work of the Foundation that she has championed for decades.  I will write a blog piece about this in the near future to do the subject justice.

What is CBD?

CBD or Cannabidiol, to give it the full name, is a chemical compound found within cannabis plants.  It’s classed as a Cannabinoid, as is the compound THC.  Unlike THC however, CBD CBD does not produce the high state traditionally associated with cannabis.

Scientific research studies are continuing to investigate the power and effects of CBD oil in medical practice.  It is shown to have great potential to treat and possibly prevent the following diseases and conditions:

  • Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, MS and strokes.  Cannabinoids act as powerful antioxidants in the brain, stimulating ‘neuroprotection’.  There provides the potential to mitigate processes that lead to the breakdown of neurons in the brain and nervous system
  • Reduces inflammation in the brain, believed by many doctors to interfere with brain function and play a role in illnesses such as chronic fatigue and brain fog
  • Helps to control epilepsy
  • Various types of cancer – results showing a reduction in the growth of tumours
  • Stress and anxiety reduction
  • Reduces certain forms of ageing reduction
  • Improved skin health
  • Helps sleep disorders
  • Alleviates chronic pain
  • Helps the discomfort of arthritis

Is it a medicine?

In the UK, the MHRA has recently recognised CBD as a medicine.  Chief Medical Advisor for England, Dame Sally Davies, has been instrumental in the UK’s decision to reschedule cannabis. She has acknowledged “conclusive evidence of the therapeutic benefit of cannabis-based medicinal products”.  The recent law change in the UK means that doctors can now prescribe CBD in particular situations.

To sell CBD as medicine it needs to be properly licensed and prescribed.  UK health food stores have been getting around this by advertising CBD oil as a health supplement, not a medicine.  Currently, CBD oil and capsules can be bought, without a prescription, on the high street from health food stores like Holland Barrett, as well as online from a plethora of sites.

CBD and other compounds in cannabis are similar to chemicals created by our own bodies and are integrated better than many synthetic drugs.

In my own journey with cancer, I used CBD oil daily to help improve my condition and found it extremely beneficial. I believe it was part of the daily routines I had that saved my life and helped me to recover from cancer with an all clear.

CBD is now widely available over the counter at health food outlets.  Getting the correct strength is important so look into it carefully and get advice from an expert when deciding how to use it and at what strength level.

This really could be Mother Nature’s natural medicinal gift to us to help us recover and get back into wellness and health naturally.
