Good news

I hosted a panel at a media conference on ‘Why we need positive news’, held at Sadlers Well’s theatre, London.

I hosted a panel at a media conference at Sadlers Well’s theatre in London on Transformational Media – addressing why it’s important that we make some big changes to the way that our news is framed and make more positive news.  It was exciting to see our press and media gathered together to hear in detail the serious impact that negative media stories have on the our psychology – at a time when our newspapers are loaded full of terror, fear and stories of disaster. The speakers covered excellent ideas on how we can make some powerful and positive changes in our national press. Great debate flowed.

Positive steps included the launch of a new international network of journalists and editors around the world working together to put out better and more positive news stories – allowing a place for media writers to go to get good-news stories placed.  Another great development is a call by positive media writers to develop a journalistic code of conduct where hard news stories as well as features include information to direct people to where they can go to in order to get help, advice or support in the area concerned and make this a standard news practice.

Working on the basis of what human science is now showing us, that what we focus our attention upon we get more of, the state of our media really does need an upgrade. A recalibration is required towards a more balanced and more positive view of the world.  We talked about this to the assembled media folk – and they listened.

We delivered some pretty powerful arguments in the forum about why it is essential to our society and our children’s society for us to create a more positive and inspiring review and backdrop to what is happening in the world.

Positive change is possible and is happening now.
