One of the greatest luxuries for many of us is to be able to buy food straight from a farm where it’s grown. There are no apples wrapped in plastic, no perfectly shaped carrots, no sweeties at the check out. This particular place shown below is open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and sometimes other days. It depends. On the weather, the people, the time of year and what’s going on in the garden that week.
This is my local shop. It’s a farm run by people who live here and care very much about the land and the food they produce. If you ask for a lettuce, they take you to a line of lettuces and dig one up for you directly, shake it and hand it over.
It’s one of the greatest feelings in the world to make a salad with food that has just been picked from a garden. When food oozes vitality and colour you know that it’s good fuel for the body. If we can do one thing, lets increase the resources for people to grow food on land using natural methods so that we can eat knowing there are no pesticides or bad sprays being put on the salads, vegetables and fruits we’re consuming. It’s one of the biggest changes we can make for us, our children and our planet.
